In Maths we have been learning our number bonds to 10.  These are two numbers that add together to make 10.  Please help us to get better by practicing at home.

0 + 10 = 10
1 + 9 = 10
2 + 8 = 10
3 + 7 = 10
4 + 6 = 10
5 + 5 = 10
6 + 4 = 10
7 + 3 = 10
8 + 2 = 10
9 + 1 = 10
10 + 0 = 10

Attendance

A big well done to 1M who have received the attendance cup twice already this half term!

It is so important that children come to school every day on time so they do not miss out on crucial learning.  If your child is really too poorly to come to school then you must telephone the office to inform the class teacher.

Rainbow Grammar

In Year 1 we use Rainbow Grammar to help us to make our sentences the best they can be.  At the moment we are focusing on 3 main areas.

SUBJECT
The subject is who or what the sentence is about - the star of the show!

PREDICATE
The predicate is what the subject is doing or what is happening to the subject.

PUNCTUATION
Punctuation is used at the end or within the sentence.

Have a look at some of our first sentences using our Rainbow Grammar cards.

Welcome to Our Blog for 2015-2016!

Hello all!  Welcome to our year one blog.  We will use it to keep you up to date with things that we have been doing or learning about in school.

This week we have been learning about addition in maths and what might happen next in our star stories.  We have enjoyed being authors!  In Science we are learning about our senses, next week we will be tasting some different foods.

We really enjoyed our local area walk!  We will be doing some writing about it and then we will be sending some work home in the post!

A few useful notes!
  • P.E is on a Monday and Wednesday.  No earrings please!  A lot of kit has no names, this is making getting changed very difficult.
  • Reading books - you need to be reading at home at least 3 times a week, commenting and signing the diary.
  • Letters - please read your child's letters, they are important and often require a response.
  • Book bags - every child needs a book bag that can fit in a piece of A4 paper.
  • Water bottles - every child needs a water bottle, staff are not allowed to provide cups of water for the children due to possible cross contamination.
